SACOG Receives Excellence in Financial Reporting Award

SACOG received a Certificate of Achievement from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The GFOA Certificate of Achievement Program, established in 1945, is designed to recognize and encourage excellence in financial reporting by state and local governments and is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

The award recognizes SACOG for a "spirit of full disclosure" that clearly communicates its financial story and motivates individuals and organizations to read the CAFR.

"We are very pleased that our financial documents received this distinguished recognition," said Lauren Hammond, SACOG Government Relations and Public Affairs Committee Chair and Sacramento City Councilmember. "We strive to be on the cutting-edge of inclusive government, and publishing readable financial information is an important component of keeping the public informed."

Over 69 percent of all cities and 46 percent of all counties with populations in excess of 50,000 in the United States participate in the program, as well as 43 state governments.
