Next Steps in MTP for 2035

The SACOG Board of Directors provided their feedback on a preliminary draft project list for the Metropolitan Transportation Plan for 2035 (MTP2035) at their regularly scheduled Board Meeting on April 19. The preliminary project list includes improvements to road projects, transit service, walking and pedestrian infrastructure, and programs in a fiscally constrained list, as well as a broader vision list requiring additional revenue sources.

Moving forward, the SACOG Board will continue to deliberate over proposed improvements and investments in its efforts to adopt a draft MTP2035 this summer. Once a draft MTP2035 is adopted by the Board, SACOG staff will continue outreach efforts by releasing the draft MTP2035 for public comment. The public comment period will also include an opportunity for public input on the embedded Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Plan (MTIP) and the draft Environmental Impact Report associated with the MTP. All three documents will be available for public comment this summer.

The MTIP is the short-term implementation program for the broader 28-year MTP. The MTP establishes goals, policies, programs and projects to meet the area’s mobility needs and to satisfy federal air quality standards. Inclusion of a project or program in the MTP is a prerequisite for inclusion of a project in the MTIP. The MTIP implements the first four years of the MTP by programming funds from upcoming budgets to projects in the MTP. Adoption of the MTP2035 is planned for the fall of 2007.

Development of the draft MTP2035 will continue to be a regular agenda item at SACOG Board and policy committee meetings over the next few months. The SACOG Board meets on the third Thursday of each month beginning at 9 a.m. at 1415 L Street, Suite 300. Policy committees meet monthly. All Board and policy committee meetings are open to the public. A calendar of upcoming meetings can be found on the back cover.
