To commemorate the occasion, RT held a commuter meet and greet at the Sacramento Valley Station platform, ending with the arrival of the inaugural train and a free grand opening ceremony. The city of Folsom and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have reached a new agreement for financing a four-lane, two-mile project just downstream from the Folsom Dam over the American River. The Corps of Engineers will pay approximately two-thirds of the $117 million cost for the bridge, with the city of Folsom covering the remaining third. Folsom’s contribution includes funding from the Measure A Renewal Program, the California Department of Water Resources, and the Sacramento Area Flood Control Agency.
The project has had federal support from Congressman John Doolittle, Congressman Dan Lungren, Congresswoman Doris Matsui, and the late Congressman Robert Matsui.
