At the December 14 SACOG Salutes! regional awards ceremony, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments honored outstanding regional efforts in transportation, smart growth planning and air quality. The high-profile awards were presented to individuals and organizations whose achievements and innovations made a significant difference in the Sacramento region in 2006.
Rancho Cordova Mayor David Sander, Ph.D. received the Bill Hughes Elected Official of the Year Award for his leadership excellence in regional transportation and local civic engagement.
Sacramento County and the city of Sacramento both received Project of the Year awards for developing pedestrian master plans that provide a comprehensive vision for improving pedestrian conditions over the next several decades.
Rancho Cordova received a Blueprint Excellence Award for developing a general plan that establishes a vision of dense and diverse neighborhoods that integrate varied land uses to create an engaging urban form. Roseville also received a Blueprint Excellence Award, theirs for the Riverside Gateway Project, which is building housing close to jobs and transit—an example of how to redevelop commercial corridors throughout the region.
The Sacramento Tree Foundation earned the Regional Organization of the Year recognition for its contributions to improving the urban forest through its shade tree program and Greenprint initiative.
Capitol Corridor Managing Director Gene Skoropowski was honored as Regional Employee of the Year for working to build the third-busiest passenger rail route in the country and convenient rail service to the Bay Area.
The 50 Mobility Partnership was honored as Business of the Year, for contributions to reducing congestion, improving mobility and facilitating smart development through a public-private partnership.
