What is the Metropolitan Transportation Plan 2035?
The Sacramento Area Council of Governments and its partners are developing the Metropolitan Transportation Plan for 2035 (MTP2035).
The goal: define how $30 billion in transportation investments will support our growth over the next 23 years.
The challenge: identifying improvements for how we move, whether by car, transit, bike or foot.
The process: citizens will provide input at 16 community workshops throughout the six-county region. Maps and other planning tools will allow them to indicate preferences for transportation improvements. Several different plans will be developed based on community input. The public process will continue until the final MTP2035 is adopted in mid-2007.
Sacramento County: Rancho Cordova/Folsom Workshop Findings
Citizen planners at the April 18 workshop in Rancho Cordova helped answer important questions:
What distances are they traveling most?
A transportation scenario supporting longer (more than 10 miles) distance travel was most popular.
How do they prioritize their travel investments?
The most frequent investment suggestions included:
- Neighborhood Shuttles countywide
- Bicycle and pedestrian bridges (over Highway 50 was common)
- Bus Rapid Transit on major roads and between communities
- Expanding roads (Grant Line and White Rock were common)
- Express Buses on major roads and between communities
How can we support our travel options?
- Improve road maintenance (repair potholes, pave surfaces)
- Cleaner Air Programs ("Spare the Air" campaigns, replace dirty diesel engines)
- Improve safety (shoulders, guardrails, lighting and pedestrian enhancements)
- Incentives for Blueprint implementation (promote smart-growth transportation and development projects)
- Improve pedestrian sidewalks and amenities (sidewalk connections, crosswalks and paths)
